Student Demographics

MU Direct students are from across Missouri and -- thanks to distance-learning technology -- all over the United States and the world. They include parents, professionals, homemakers, administrators and others with the desire and abilities to further their education.

A total of 23 percent are men, and 77 percent are women. At least 5 percent are from minority groups (3 percent African-American, 1.4 percent Asian or Pacific Islander, .8 percent Hispanic, .2 percent American Indian/Alaskan native), and 2 percent are international non-residents.

Many of our students resume their education 10 to 30 years after leaving high school or college. Most enroll part time to fit their studies into busy lifestyles and workloads.

Almost all of our first-time online students need help getting started with the technical aspects of their courses. Despite any initial reservations about web-based learning, more than 90 percent of those students later tell us that online study is an excellent alternative to classroom education.
